Is wedding videography really that important?

When it comes to capturing all the special moments of your wedding day, photography is what many engaged couples put the most thought toward. It makes sense and it’s what we did for our own wedding. We both still vividly remember saying “Video is not important enough to budget for…” We also still cringe at the thought. The truth is, to us, wedding videography has become such an important component to consider for your big day.

While a photographer freezes the moment in time, a videographer brings the moments to life! The combination of music, narration and scenes from your day brings preserving your wedding day to a whole new level.

For many couples, wedding videography may not seem like a necessary component or added expense, but after 7 years of marriage, we can tell you we are still a little heartbroken every year that we don’t have a video to watch on our anniversary together.

If you could go back, how would you convince yourself to invest?

Couples put in a lot of time, effort and resources when planning their wedding day. The wedding day is one of the biggest chances to capture one of the most magical moments in your lives. Speaking from our own experience, it took us a little over almost 2 years of planning our wedding, but when that day finally came, we both felt that the day quickly flew by. We tried our best to soak in every moment as it was happening but even after our wedding, we still found ourselves wanting to relive those once in a lifetime moments over and over again only to have nothing to do that with. It’s a bummer we want our couples to avoid. In fact, we are even planning our own vow renewal for our 10 years anniversary and you better believe we will be hiring a photographer AND videographer!!!

What wedding film options are available to couples?

We specialize in crafting short, cinematic and story-driven wedding films that are easy to watch and share with family and friends. This is not simply clips put to music, we aim to capture your day and tell the story. Showing off a quick 6 minute highlight of the absolute best parts of your day, is usually easier than a 4 hour film including every single clips of you and your friends dancing. We offer a wedding highlight film which is typically 4-5 minutes in length and tells the story of your day. Our films are cinematically edited, professionally colour graded and delivered digitally in 4K ultra HD quality and many people comment it looks like they are watching a “movie of their day” instead of clips thrown together with music. Our couples can add on extra films if they want more of the day, but most people have no idea what to do with hours of clip footage!

What is your approach to wedding videography?

Our films approach is filmed and edited more like a movie with a view to emphasizing the emotion and drama of the day. It may rely more on montages, music or special effects such as slow motion.

We work together as a team to capture both photography and videography at the same time. It has become our specialty and we love capturing a wedding day with both formats. It truly gives you full creative control and allows your client to slow down instead of being directly by different people needing different imagery. While we work great with other videographers, because our mission is always TEAM COUPLE first. After years of experience, we have found that unless the photographer and videographer have worked together extensively, there will always be a level is disconnect between them. Because we are both photographers and videographers who capture in the cinematic style, we interact significantly more on the day, sometimes setting up movements and directing the couple or guests when needed and that is incredibly important to our style. We are more involved on a wedding day and it is a seamless transition between the two.

The camera work of a Cinematic wedding video may feature more movement – sometimes using camera stabilisation systems – and colors and contrast may be enhanced during editing to give it a more film-like feel.

Artistic inspiration is an important part of our process, so we limit the amount of weddings we film each year in order to give couples our absolute best. We strive to build a real connection with our couples – so they feel totally relaxed in front of the camera. We truly believe that it’s our passion, our attention to detail and the time we spend crafting our films that allow us to tell your story that feels like you.
